Character: Kikyo
Series: Inu Yasha Details: This costume was worn at the Glasgow Anime Halloween Meet and at the Christmas Event a couple of months later. I quite like the character, although I've never seen beyond the 20th episode or so of Inu Yasha. There were a few reasons why I chose this costume: firstly, she had a relatively simple costume that I could make in a short period of time, secondly because I wouldn't need a wig for it and, thirdly, I could wear this costume in Glasgow and not freeze to death. The costume was really comfortable to wear - I had no problems walking around all day in it. It wasn't hard to make either, as most of the seams were just simple straight ones. The hardest part of the costume was handsewing the hems on the hakama - it wasn't particularly hard; just took ages. I was using an ancient machine that was only capable of straight stitch, giving me a lot of extra work to do. Apologies for the bad photo - this costume just did not seem to take well to being photographed at all. Hints and tips?: Clear nail varnish is useful for stopping ribbons from fraying - I used it on the ends of the ribbons that were threaded through the haori sleeves, and it worked well for sealing them. |
