Character: Yuuhi Kurenai
Series: Naruto Details: I'd been planning on making a Kurenai costume for a while, as it has a really cool design (it's just a shame she doesn't get more screentime). So, when the prospect of Tokonatsu, an outdoor camping convention came up, I really didn't have much of an excuse. Afterall, Naruto cosplay just fits right in. This costume took a good while to finish and was more difficult than anything I'd done before. I started off with a tennis dress as the base for Kurenai's bandage top. I then had to adjust it a bit, make the big bandages, paint on the stripes and handsew them to the dress. Cue many stabbings of fingers x_x. I probably made more adjustments from existing pieces of clothing in this cosplay than any other I had done before. The red top was made up of three tops in total. The shorts and the wrist wraps were made from scratch though. I was really pleased with how everything turned out overall. The shorts weren't perfect, and they won't be useable again, but they lasted for the day at least :) Hints and tips?: If you're doing any costume with bandages... then sew them onto something. Everything bandagy in this cosplay was sewn to something solid. Otherwise, they just fall down. In Kurenai's case especially, this could be a Bad Thing. |
